The European Green Deal foresees achieving climate-neutrality for “the continent” as both a great challenge and an opportunity. However, the continent is much larger than just the EU. For example, Russia and Turkey combined are already projected to bypass the EU emissions level by 2030, while Ukraine remains one of the most carbon-intensive economies in the world, as measured by its greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP. Climate neutrality on the continent can therefore be achieved only in collaboration with the EU’s international partners. This will require a reflection on EU’s strategies to engage with its neighbours, allies and other partners.
This event will feature a discussion on the economic and environmental challenges faced by these countries while the global spotlight is focused on climate change .
The connection information will be sent in a separate email one hour prior to the event.
